Cairo, February 12, 2009 – IFC,
a member of the World Bank Group, and the American University in Cairo
(AUC) have finalized plans to include a course on Corporate Governance
within their Executive Management Diploma as part of the initiative to
improve corporate governance practices within the region.
The program provides the necessary knowledge and skills that will enable
Executive Managers to contribute to the success of their business. The
Corporate Governance curriculum, split into consecutive courses to be taken
over three semesters, was developed by the IFC Advisory Services in the
Middle East and North Africa. The diploma would be the first in the region
to include courses specifically on corporate governance.
Yehia El Husseiny, Project Officer at IFC’s Corporate Governance Program,
said “This is a significant step to ensure that students understand corporate
governance issues in the region, he added: “we are teaching the future
business leaders of tomorrow how to incorporate good governance practices
within corporations.”
Aly Ismail, the Director of the Institute of Management Development in
AUC, said; ‘The introduction of the corporate governance program, matches
our quality standard offering, will add an edge to our Executive Management
Diploma, which targets University graduates from different disciplines
who have the potential of future corporate executives’.
Part of IFC’s Corporate Governance initiative in the MENA region is to
offer educational institutions with curriculums that provide students with
the tools for implementing good corporate governance.
